Snow and Ugly Wallpaper Border

When it snows, it snows. Fort Smith got like 7 inches, but that's alright. I got to leave early from work on Friday and I got a snow day at my part time gig on Saturday. The Hubs and I got to sleep in Saturday and Sunday. It was nice for a change.
My 2 Corgi's enjoyed the snow. The Dachshund, not so much. Fred HATES to be cold, so it really wasn't his thing.

I did get a chance to try and take down the horrible wallpaper border in our dining room.

It turned out harder than I thought. Usually, I just whip out my ol' trusty wallpaper steamer remover thing

and wham-o, it comes down fairly easy. Not this wallpaper. I think it has been on since the dawn of time or something! I'm going to try again this weekend, since I didn't get very fair on my previous attempt.

The Cove

My Husband has been bugging me to watch this documentary called The Cove. I refused to watch it for so long because I knew it would make me sad and then I would cry, blah blah blah. I finally broke down and watched it last night. I'm so glad I did, it's an amazing documentary. I posted the trailer below. Check it out and if it's something you would be interested in learning more about, go and rent it! They even have it at the $1.00 Redbox thingy. Animal Rights is something I have always been very passionate about, but this is just insane what goes on in Japan.

Synopsis - www.covemovie.com

The Cove begins in Taiji, Japan, where former dolphin trainer Ric O’Barry has come to set things right after a long search for redemption. In the 1960s, it was O’Barry who captured and trained the 5 dolphins who played the title character in the international television sensation “Flipper.”

But his close relationship with those dolphins – the very dolphins who sparked a global fascination with trained sea mammals that continues to this day -- led O’Barry to a radical change of heart. One fateful day, a heartbroken Barry came to realize that these deeply sensitive, highly intelligent and self-aware creatures so beautifully adapted to life in the open ocean must never be subjected to human captivity again. This mission has brought him to Taiji, a town that appears to be devoted to the wonders and mysteries of the sleek, playful dolphins and whales that swim off their coast.

But in a remote, glistening cove, surrounded by barbed wire and “Keep Out” signs, lies a dark reality. It is here, under cover of night, that the fishermen of Taiji, driven by a multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry and an underhanded market for mercury-tainted dolphin meat, engage in an unseen hunt. The nature of what they do is so chilling -- and the consequences are so dangerous to human health -- they will go to great lengths to halt anyone from seeing it.

Undeterred, O’Barry joins forces with filmmaker Louis Psihoyos and the Oceanic Preservation Society to get to the truth of what’s really going on in the cove and why it matters to everyone in the world. With the local Chief of Police hot on their trail and strong-arm fishermen keeping tabs on them, they will recruit an “Ocean's Eleven”-style team of underwater sound and camera experts, special effects artists, marine explorers, adrenaline junkies and world-class free divers who will carry out an undercover operation to photograph the off-limits cove, while playing a cloak-and-dagger game with those who would have them jailed. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery that adds up to an urgent plea for hope.

If this is something you are passionate about, take a few seconds out of your day and visit the website and sign the petition. Okay, I'm done. Thanks and have a great day!

Ice Ice Baby

According to the local news we have an 80% chance of ice tomorrow and 70% chance of ice on Friday. I think we are getting some ice! My plan is to get a blanket, some yummy Hot Coco and some good movies and curl up on the couch with my Hubs. What are your plans? Personally, I'm not a big fan of snow or ice, but what can you do. I'm secretly dreaming of spring time when I can get out and go to garage sales and antique stores and be blissfully happy... well happy until it gets scorching HOT outside where it forces me to stay inside with the A/C! Get out those Snuggies and Stay Warm Everybody!

Going Green...

So, I was out sick yesterday and I didn't have the energy to post anything. We got our new furniture Saturday morning and let me tell ya, it looks so much better! It makes the room feel cozier too. This is what our living room looked like Friday night without any furniture.

I didn't get all of the large window with the crappy outdated blinds in the picture. I'm on the lookout for some curtains that will match the new set up. I think curtains really pull a room together, don't you?

Here is a picture of our fireplace and mantel. I love the fireplace! I'm always changing it up... I'm never satisfied.

So, we went with the green couch and loveseat. Once we got it in the living room, it doesn't look as green as it did at the store. It actually looks really good and matches the wall color. I'm thinking of just keeping the wall color as is until further notice...

This is a crappy picture I took yesterday when I was deathly ill... but you get the idea. Now all that is left is to get curtains, area rug and maybe a coffee table. I can't wait until it's garage sale weather again! I need a lot of stuff! Oh yeah, I'm also on the lookout for a hall tree aka hat rack. If you see one around and it's fairly cheap, let me know!

Saturday Gig

I took some pictures from my Saturday gig at Designer Again on Saturday. I thought I would share some of the cool stuff she has in her shop.

I LOOOOVE this couch... and rumor has it that it is a Drexel. Unfortunately, I don't have the $300 to buy it or even the room in my house for it! It's pretty long. I didn't even get all of the couch in the picture.

Of course there are TONS more things that I didn't get a chance to take pictures of! It's super busy there on Saturday's, so I had to try to get some pictures when I first got there. I'll keep my eyes open for cool stuff I can take pictures of and then I'll post them on here for your viewing pleasure!

New Couch

I think we are going to get a new couch and love seat or couch and chair... not sure yet on the combo. For those of you that know me you are probably thinking "Didn't you just get a new couch and chair" and yes, you are right. Right before we put our house on the market, we bought a new couch and chair from Ashley Furniture and we haven't been happy with either. We have already had someone come out and work on both of them and they still are broken. The couch is kind of sinking in the middle and making a squeaky/popping noise and the chair is messed up too. Not to mention they really don't fit with the living room layout at the new house. Anyway, we started looking tonight and we found a few that we are interested in. Check em' out!

This one is my favorite! Of course, Brent hates it... but who cares what he thinks?! I love the neutral colors, but it also has kind of a "retro" look to it.

I thought this one was kind of neat. I have never had a sectional before, but I'm not sure if I would like it in the long run...

I love the color of this one and it's the perfect size! Cute pillows too...

This one of course is Brent's favorite. Personally, I hate leather and it's not really my style. I have a feeling we are going to be fighting over this for awhile! Except that I really wanted to get one this weekend! So, we'll see. Which one do you like the best?

My Baby

I just had to share a picture of my baby, Fred. He is a miniature Dachshund and he is so spoiled it's not even funny. We have this gigantic window in our living room that has a little ledge and Fred has made it his "look out perch". I caught him in the act yesterday...

Monday... Blah.

Happy Monday! The Hubs and I have decided to start the "diet" today, so I'm not sure what is so happy about it. I actually took the Real Age Test on the Dr. Oz website, http://www.doctoroz.com/, and I was quit shocked by what my "real" age should be, 40. I'm only 30! I guess I better start getting healthy and fit and get back to my REAL age! You should take the test if you need an eye opener... It sure opened mine.

On another note, I'm still thinking about paint color. It takes me forever to decide on color. I have an idea of what I want to do, but it always changes. Since we have downsized to a 2 bedroom house, storage and space is limited. In our bedroom, we really don't have a lot of room to put side tables, dresser, etc. I got an idea from watching HGTV (imagine that, right) about creating my own bedside tables.

Cute, right? We found the boards and mounting brackets at Lowe's for super cheap and they have them in black so it will match my bed! I can't wait to get them done. It should all cost around $50 by the time we get through. Not too bad... These would save room and I will still have enough space to add a lamp, my alarm clock and my book of course. I am still eyeing these stick lamps from Target (color, Fern $16.99).

Sorry for the crap picture... I think the color will match my curtains that I already own, so I won't have to update those. Now all I need is a drill to go in my pimp $5.00 toolbox I bought myself for Christmas!

I can picture it now...

Okay, maybe a little bigger in the waist area! Hee Hee

P.S.

For those of you that actually view this blog, you can show me some love by following. All you have to do is click on the link on the top of the page that says follow.... It would mean the world to me to know that you are actually out there. You know who you are!

Happy Hump Day

So, it's Wednesday and it's cold. Apparently it is suppose to get down to like 4 degrees tonight. I don't know about you, but I am looking forward to it (insert sarcasam>. There is only so much a Snuggie can do! I do plan on having a Snuggie photo shoot soon. I want to take some nice shots with me in my Snuggie. Maybe someone will see them and put me on a Snuggie commercial! Now, wouldn't that be nice?

How about... Snuggies for Dogs? Little Fred would look so adorable in one of these. Right now, he just curls up in my lamp underneath my Snuggie. He would be much more comfortable in his own.

Now, this is by far the ultimate Snuggie....

Makes me want to run out and get knocked up so I can wear something like this! Sweet!
Now after all of this Snuggie talk, I will leave you with this....

Hopefully, this will soon be in my wardrobe.

Now go and grab your Snuggie and some hot cocoa and try to stay warm. It's going to get freaking cold.

Kitchen

So, I have decided to post some pictures of the kitchen. This is what the kitchen looked like when we moved in and still looks like today.

The cabinets are horrible and so is the counter tops and the flooring. I can't even begin to guess how old the hardware on the cabinets are! The flooring is okay except the fact the person who put the floor in decided that it was too much work to move the stove and lay the floor under the stove... So, you guessed it! They left the old floor under the stove! Seriously... The refrigerator does have an ice maker! The dishwasher works, but is not in the best shape. Now, I don't plan on doing much with the kitchen unless we decide to stay here for awhile. The kitchen does have this cool island...

It has storage underneath where we put our pots & pans, etc. and there is a drawer on each side that we store a bunch of junk in.
You can see the back door which leads out to an awesome desk and backyard. I will post pictures later when it's not freezing. The door now has that gross pull down shade, which I hate. I want to get some decorative window film to replace the shade, That way we can still have privacy.

Now, I just have to pick out a color for the walls and the bottom part of the island. Easier said than done with me. I'll post pictures later. Right now I have to go and let my neighbors dog, Stella out since I am dog sitting! Good Night!!

You know how I like the curves...

I just had to share this. I saw this on AOL

Plus-Size Model Crystal Renn Rocks V Magazine Size Issue

Photographer Terry Richardson's story, dubbed 'One Size Fits All,' features plus-size model/author Crystal Renn -- a 5 ft, 9 in. beauty with 36-31-41 measurements -- opposite model-on-the-rise Jacquelyn Jablonski who stands at the same height as Renn, but with more waifish stats: 32-24-34.

Both women, shown in side-by-side images, strike similar poses and don identical and often vibrantly patterned ensembles by the likes of Ralph Lauren, Proenza Schouler and Dolce & Gabbana with bold accessories by Versace, Burberry and Alexis Bittar.

One spread (shown above) features both models wearing the ubiquitous bodysuit and innerwear as outerwear trend, here, in the form of a fully visible bra, both by Dolce & Gabbana.

The point of the spread is apparent -- to show that size doesn't matter and fashion can flatter a multitude of figures. Now, if only all the fashion designers would include plus-sizes in their collections, we'd be getting somewhere.

To me the "plus size" model doesn't even look plus size! But I guess when you put her against the the other model she is. I would love to look like her (Crystal Renn) she is gorgeous.

Just another Saturday night

Happy New Year!
Today was my 2nd Saturday at Designer Again! Every week that I go in there, it's like going in to a new store. I can't wait to see all the new stuff they get in. I've been eyeing a few pieces of home decor. I am hoping that they will go on sale and then I can snatch them up. There is all kinds of furniture and home decor items there and not to mention all the clothes, shoes and purses!

I plan to make tomorrow my "clean the house day". I plan on posting some pictures soon, so stay put and be patient with me. I just hate to post anything that isn't finished or that is not to my liking. I am a Virgo you know... I think I have decided to paint the dining room first. It is the 2nd room that you see when you walk in the door, so I want it to flow with the living room... and right now that floral border just isn't working. I figure since we plan on staying here for awhile, I don't mind sprucing the place up a bit. We also have a really nice neighbor that has an English Bulldog named Stella...

We are actually dog sitting for the weekend while our neighbor is out of town. She is such a doll! Makes me want one...

Okay, I'm off to bed! I think I'm getting a cold or something... Eeekk...
